Second, and this is very important, remove any cats who may be tempted to come and sit on your EX. This is a particular problem in cold climates or winter and you are working with a still-warm EX. Place the cat carefully in a comfortable location and stroke several times for good luck. Be sure to discharge any static you may build up by placing both hands on an earthed metal surface (radiator, pipe etc). Please note that attempting to earth the cat by the insertion of a ground wire in an orifice is not to be advised :-)
